About this venue

This 14-room, Federal-style mansion houses the collections of the Chautauqua County Historical Society. The home was built in 1818 by James McClurg, a wealthy man from Pittsburgh. McClurg built a more elegant home for his family. The last of his descendants died in the last year. The hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The three-story exhibit on Chautauqua County’s development includes art, antiques, dolls and more, including an exhibit on the connection of Chauteauqua County to Abraham Lincoln.
