California Historical Society

The California Historical Society is a society that works to preserve the history of California. Exhibits offer fascinating insight into the daily life in California, including a horseless carriage (or so reads the license plate). The hotel also has an extensive collection of fine art, photographs and manuscripts, including Gold Rush era diaries and letters. The museum has a bookstore with titles on almost anything you would like to know about California from its earliest days to the present.
