Rome Caravaggio Tour Madness Murder and Local Tasting

This tour goes beyond Caravaggio's masterpieces to reveal the extraordinary man behind them: genius, gambler, murderer and fugitive, whose dramatic life unfolded across the streets, churches and palaces you'll discover along the way. Meet your fully licensed English-speaking guide outside the Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo before following Caravaggio's footsteps through the heart of Rome. Walk the very street where, in 1606, a duel with Ranuccio Tomassoni ended in murder, forcing the artist to flee Rome with a death sentence on his head. Admire the complete Saint Matthew cycle and the Madonna of the Pilgrims. Discover how Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte recognised Caravaggio's genius and launched the career that changed the history of art. The experience ends with a traditional tasting paired with aglass of local wine, inspired by one of Caravaggio's most famous anecdotes. Please be aware that some churches may close without prior notice, for reasons entirely beyond our control.
