First Baptist Church in America

About this venue

The First Baptist Church in America is the primary denomination for this particular denomination of Protestantism. It was built in 1775 and played a significant part in the development of Colonial America as well as Providence. Brown University moved to Warren in 1770, and the church was behind it. The university still holds commencement ceremonies in the church's Meeting Hall every Fall. The hotel was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and today it is open to the public for services on Sunday as well as more tourist-oriented visits during the week.
