Penguin Bank
Penguin Bank, Maui, HI, United States
About
The Penguin Bank is a small island a few miles west of Maui, Lna'i and Moloka'o. It is located in the northern part of the Hawaiian archipelago. The aforementioned islands are separated by short ocean channels, scientists speculate that over a million years ago they were one large landmass named Maui Nui. The valleys of the island were flooded as the ice age ended and the sea rose. Penguin Bank remains, however, as a long, shallow outcropping of coral that sits atop the dormant shield volcano that gave rise to the island. Penguin Bank is a popular fishing and diving destination.
