Kahoolawe
Kahoolawe, Maui, HI, United States
About
Maui is a county in Maui, Hawaii. Kahoolawe lies just over eleven miles from the famous resort of Wailea across the Kaalakahiki channel and yet it remains uninhabited due to the lack of a fresh water source. The island was also used as a school for celestial navigation and is dedicated to Kanaloa the Hawaiian God of sea, death and dark water. It was used for bombing practice by the United States military in the late 1950s. Today, Kanaloa guards over the island and the channel.
