Walk the amphitheater steps and take in sweeping views toward Denver. At the base of Mount Blue Sky, enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at Echo Lake Park, where a glacially formed alpine lake reflects the surrounding peaks. Framed by ancient bristlecone pines—some over 1,700 years old—it’s a peaceful place to recharge and capture photos. Continue your ascent along one of the highest paved roads in North America, rising to 14,130 feet. Above treeline, the landscape opens into alpine tundra and granite outcrops where mountain goats and bighorn sheep are often seen. At the summit, enjoy sweeping views across the Rockies and the Continental Divide. If weather or road conditions limit access, we travel to the highest safely accessible point, stopping in historic Idaho Springs along the way.
