About this venue

The historic Whaler's Cabin in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve dates back to the 1850s when it was constructed as a safe house for Japanese and Chinese fishermen who got stranded in the deep waters of the Pacific Ocean. It was a popular whaling spot for big whalling companies, such as the Japanese Whaling Company and the Carmel Whalin Company. The beachside cabin is a museum dedicated to highlighting the cultural practices of the region during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
