Candi and the Strangers

Ethereal and spacey, the music of Austin-based band Candi and the Strangers doesn't stray from otherworldly dreampop, full of sugar-coated vocals and reverbed synth. Formed in 2009 when producer Erik Wofford--of The Black Angels and Voxtrot fame--was persuaded to aid in creating music rather than just producing it, Worford's addition made the group a five-piece and lent its music lushly complex orchestrations, reminiscent of a film score. Fittingly, the band began its career by scoring a documentary and went on to produce its debut album immediately following. While Candi and the Strangers isn't always able to reproduce what it creates in the studio on stage, its front-woman sometimes crooning vocals more worthy of karaoke, the group still puts on an entertaining show, full of interesting lighting effects.
