Garage rock maven Hanni El Khatib took over the underground rock world of Los Angeles in the early 2010s. He takes the stripped-down instrumentation of the garage rock revival and uses it as a vehicle for songs that recall nothing as much as classic soul or 1950s-1960s doo-wop. Playing with a bare bones guitar and drums setup, he places his clever songwriting and warm, soulful croon at the foreground of his music.
