Mi-gu

As a member of some of Japan's more well-revered experimental projects of the 2000s, Yuko Araki formed her own band, mi-gu, in 2003. Araki served as drummer for the trippy cut and paste electronic producer, Cornelius and began touring with the Yoko Ono spearheaded project, Plastic Ono Band in 2009. When it came time to piece together mi-gu, she turned to multi-instrumentalist, Hirotaka Shimizu, whose bass, piano and guitars mesh well with the odd funkiness of Araki's drumming and vocals. The band uses unorthodox recording techniques and song structures to present its psychedelic take on drone-tinged, experimental indie rock.
