Amber Asylum is a San Francisco-based group that blends dark ambient pop with classically-influenced neo-romanticism. Violin, cello and haunting vocals are the three primary tools at the band's disposal and succeed in helping establish a brooding, gothic-style tension that sounds both beautiful and morose. Amber Asylum formed in 1996 and has captured the attention of members of many underground circles, as evidenced by the group's collaborations with both avant-garde and metal musicians. Amber Asylum's music isn't particularly built with mainstream intentions in mind, so it's no wonder that the band is far from being considered a household name.
