Forged by members of various hip-hop groups on the underground scene in Houston, The Niyat, which is Arabic for "intention," was first conceived in 2006. Due to its emcees' ability to win countless mic battles, The Niyat gained prominence amongst hip-hop musicians and aficionados, building a reputation for its live freestyles. While the trio is still primarily an underground phenomenon, it may want to remain that way, referring to itself as "the best emcees you have never heard of," and maintaining an alternative mindset that is often spoiled by mainstream attention.
