About

Aziz Mian Qawwal, born Abdul Aziz in Delhi on April 17, 1942, was a legendary Pakistani qawwali singer renowned for his unique style of incorporating ghazals into qawwali. He migrated to Pakistan after the partition in 1947 and trained for sixteen years under Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan in Lahore. Aziz Mian is known for his powerful, raspy voice and his ability to compose his own lyrics, a rarity in qawwali. His performances often touched on religious and Sufi themes, earning him titles such as "Shahenshah-e-Qawwali" and "Fauji Qawwal." He gained international recognition after performing for the Shah of Iran in 1966. With a vast discography, including his famous qawwalis like "Main Sharabi," he also holds the record for the longest commercially released qawwali, Hashr Ke Roz Yeh Poochhunga. Aziz Mian passed away in 2000 from hepatitis complications, leaving behind a profound musical legacy continued by his sons.
