About
This play by David Hirson uses iambic pentameter to explore the 17th century social sphere of Moliere's France. The play follows the Elomire, who directs the Royal Theater Company, and buffoon-like street performer Valere, who he is forced to take on the hand of his patron, Prince Conti. The ensuing mayhem and mishaps reflect Moliere's classic comedic sensibilities with a modern voice. The insightful and hilarious play premiered on Broadway in 1991 and has since become a favorite of regional theater productions, inviting remounts in London and New York.
