After the breakup of his band Pohgoh and the Maccabees, guitarist Matthew Slate took a five year hiatus from making music before returning with his home recorded solo project, King of Spain. While essentially a singer/songwriter at heart, King of Spain breaks with the conventions of the genre with the inclusion of strange ambient noises and inventively looped vocals. Based in Tampa, Florida, King of Spain's music sounds like nothing less than a collaboration between Brians Wilson and Eno.
