One of the first productions to address mental illness in the musical theater format, Next to Normal is haunting, inspiring and emotional story of a family whose matron is suffering from a steadily worsening case of bipolar disorder. Touching on the issues of suicide, drug abuse, medical ethics and suburban life, the boundary-pushing show earned critical and audience acclaim after its 2009 debut and has since been performed in cities around the world.
