It seems to be a common trend for couples, dating or married, to form a band that generally creates cutesy pop-based music. Portland-via-Alabama married couple Viva Voce falls slightly outside of this cliche. More likely to reference indie folk and early psychedelic rock than romantic pop, the duo began writing music together in 1998. Since then, the band has started its own label to release its music and has added a few backing musicians that often tour with the couple to help produce a richer sound. While Viva Voce may not be known in the mainstream commercial radio crowd, in its career that spans over a decade, the band has built a solid fan base throughout the world.
