Primarily the project of Washington DC-based singer/songwriter Mark Charles Heidinger, Vandaveer initially began as a solo bedroom act in 2006. However, with the release of a second album and the incorporation of vocals from Heidinger's sister Rose Guerin as well as background instrumentals/production by members of the band These United States, Vandaveer's sound broadened into rich neo-folk with gothic-folk leanings. Maintaining a following in Europe, the UK and the US, Vandaveer tours worldwide on a regular basis.
