Coast Modern was an American indie pop duo from Los Angeles, California, consisting of Luke Atlas and Coleman Trapp. Formed in 2015, the duo met in L.A. after Atlas moved from Seattle, while Trapp, originally from L.A., had returned from Denver. They began collaborating, and their breakthrough came with the 2015 single “Hollow Life.” Known for their eclectic blend of pop, rock, and psychedelic sounds, Coast Modern gained recognition with subsequent singles like “Animals” and “Guru” in 2016. Their self-titled debut album, Coast Modern, was released in 2017, featuring a playful mix of nostalgic and modern influences. Their sophomore album, Going Mainstream, followed in 2021. The band toured with artists like BØRNS and The Wombats and performed at South by Southwest. In 2023, Coast Modern disbanded, with Atlas forming a new band, Wet World. Influenced by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Weezer, Coast Modern embraced a carefree sound rooted in their youthful musical inspirations.
