Syd Straw is a folk rock singer/songwriter from Los Angeles who got her start in the music industry as a backup singer for Pat Benatar during the 1980s. Following a successful run as a vocalist with the 1980s alternative rock group Golden Palominos, Syd Straw released her 1989 debut solo album Surprise, featuring several members from Golden Palominos including Michael Stype of R.E.M. fame. Usually sought out for her distinctly rich voice, Syd Straw has since enjoyed steady success as a musician, with several critically acclaimed albums released over the course of her decades-spanning career.
