About
Formed in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, Saint Vitus is often credited as being one of the first band's responsible for creating the doom metal genre. The band has ebbed and flowed in significance over the years and went on hiatus from 1996 to 2003, and again for five years starting in 2003. Regardless, Saint Vitus is constantly referenced by current doom metal bands as being a major influence on the genre's evolution. As is typical of the genre, the group plays heavy and slow, often extending song lengths to five to ten minutes long. Saint Vitus has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity thanks to a 2009 reunion that was unfortunately marred by the death of long-time original drummer, Armando Acosta in 2010. The band has continued to press on with lengthy tours however, and plans to hit the studio together once again.
