Dita Von Teese, born Heather Renée Sweet in Rochester, MI, is an American burlesque dancer and vedette. Her captivation with Golden Age-era styles began at a young age and was cultivated by her mother. She began training as a classical ballet dancer at an early age and by the time she was 13, she had danced solo for a local ballet company. Von Teese studied historic costuming in college and is a trained costume designer. Her stage name is a tribute to silent film actress Dita Parlo, while the surname is a play on the last name Von Treese. Her burlesque routines, especially of the Neo-Burlesque genre, have earned her the title of "Queen of Burlesque." Apart from her career as a famed burlesque dancer, Von Teese also dabbles in music. She has appeared in music videos for artists like Green Day, Marilyn Manson, Thirty Seconds to Mars and more, and has collaborated with Die Antwoord and Monarchy on the songs "Gucci Coochie" and "Disintegration," respectively. Her major venture into music happened when Sebastien Tellier, inspired by her celestial beauty, wrote an album of electropop songs for her. This album, titled Dita Von Teese, was released in 2018 and featured the tracks "Rendez-vous," "Bird of Prey" and "Porcelaine."
