Conjunto is a Southwestern term for a small group of musicians playing Mexican music consisting of accordion, bass and drums. San Antonio-based band, Piñata Protest, takes this concept and filters it through a lens of Tex-Mex style punk rock. Quick blasts of tempo and thrash metal guitars contrast with the prevalent use of accordion, giving the group a unique flavor that manages to be representative of both traditional and modern musical influences in Texas. Piñata Protest's music shares a spirit with the loose, ramshackle nature of gypsy punk and street bands, as evidenced by the band's willingness to set up and play anywhere it can.
