The Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group is the main progressive rock side project of Mars Volta front man Omar Rodriguez Lopez and is primarily an outlet for the singer/songwriter to perform his own solo work live. Rodriguez's group came about as a temporary means of touring his self-titled solo debut album in 2005, however the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group has lived on ever since as a means for Rodriguez and several other members of Mars Volta to pursue more experimental musical work without attracting the attention their much bigger band typically draws.
