Kardeş Türküler, formed in 1993, is a Turkish ethnic/folkloric band known for promoting cultural diversity through music. Originating as a project by Boğaziçi University students, the band incorporates various musical traditions from Anatolia and Mesopotamia, including Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian, Arabic, and other ethnic influences. Their work is rooted in advancing the ideals of unity and fraternity among different cultural groups. Over the years, Kardeş Türküler has released albums such as Kardeş Türküler (1997), Doğu (1999), and Bahar (2005), and collaborated with international artists like Arto Tunçboyacıyan and Reem Kelani. The group’s music has also been featured in films like Vizontele. Despite their focus on cultural heritage, Kardeş Türküler remains active in contemporary social and political movements, symbolizing solidarity through both music and activism. Their discography showcases a deep connection to the diverse folk traditions of Turkey and the surrounding regions.
