Born in Hamilton, New Zealand and now based in Melbourne, Australia, Kimbra is a pop singer whose smoky vocals are colored with the enticing flavors of a soulful jazz chanteuse. Equal parts Kylie Minogue, Bjork and Nina Simone, Kimbra started singing as a precocious tween, quickly going on to perform at some of Australia's hugest venues. Her songwriting, while broad and poppy, is so engagingly idiosyncratic as to allow her to more than stand out from the pack of preening pop princesses.
