Melanie Hernandez Calumpad, professionally known as Kyla, is a prominent Filipino R&B artist. She gained early recognition as a runner-up in the 1997 Metropop Star Search and made a significant impact with her debut album, Way to Your Heart (2000), which featured the award-winning single "Hanggang Ngayon." Kyla's follow-up releases, including Kyla (2002) and I Will Be There (2003), further established her as a leading R&B artist. Her later work, such as Private Affair (2010) and The Queen of R&B (2018), showcased her versatility, incorporating jazz and new soul influences. In addition to her music career, Kyla has acted in television series like Villa Quintana (2013–2014) and has hosted and judged various TV shows. She has received numerous awards, including eleven Awit Awards and a MTV Video Music Award. Kyla married basketball player Rich Alvarez in 2011, and they have a son born in 2013.
