About

Bobby Caldwell moved around a lot as a kid in the 1960s, picking up influences everywhere he lived. He began his career at 17 by performing hard rock songs with a band, but quickly switched to writing tunes that have become staples on every smooth jazz and R&B station in the world. Caldwell's first hit was on his debut record from 1978 with the song "What You Won't Do For Love," but it would seem small in comparison to the success his second record Cat in the Hat brought to him in Japan. His ability as a songwriter earned him numerous gigs penning hits for the likes of Boz Scaggs, the Commodores, Chicago and films like Back to School and Mac & Me. Even though he's treated like royalty in Japan by his adoring fans, he resides in New York and was honored to get to play Frank Sinatra in a theatrical production that won him many American accolades.
