A singer/songwriter born in Mississippi, Cory Branan's career has been on the rise since the release of his debut album in 2002. He started in his teens playing Black Sabbath covers in a heavy metal band, but changed direction when he heard the music of John Prine and began writing his own material in the alternative country and Americana vein. Branan received the Phillips Award in 2000 from the Memphis NARAS chapter for being "Newcomer of the Year" and has since appeared on Late Night with David Letterman.
