About
Written by French playwright Yasmina Reza, God of Carnage made its debut in Switzerland in 2006 before coming to London's West End in 2008 for a run that would earn the production an Olivier award and three Tony awards the following year. The story revolves around a schoolyard incident of violence between two children that sparks a meeting between their parents. The ensuing encounter results in a chaotic conversation that touches on subjects of violence, chauvinism, racial anxiety and homophobia. Upper middle-class living is explored in this daring, evocative and hilarious evening of theater, which has enjoyed wild success in both New York and London. Reza's tack-sharp wit and gutsy skill with the pen attribute themselves to this fanged excavation of what lies beneath normative complacency when the gloves are off.
