Lucrezia Borgia is an opera that was composed by 19th Century Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. The story is based on a play by Victor Hugo of the same name that follows a woman whose lust for power brought to an end by a reunion with her long-lost son. As one of Donizetti's most performed opera's, Lucrezia Borgia has seen numerous performances over time, including one of the opera's most famous performances at Carnegie Hall in 1965, which acted as a vehicle for the American debut of world-renowned soprano Montserrat Caballe.
