In the 1990s, the English-based band Stereolab helped create a genre that would go on to be referred as post rock. With dissonant guitars, lurching rhythms and languid vocals, Stereolab managed to grab hold of a fairly sizable listening base and become one of the leading groups of the post rock scene. Though the band broke up in 2009, the group's French-born singer Laetita Sadier carries on with solo musical endeavors and creates tunes that are a marketed departure from her work with her former band. With a more pop-friendly song format and vocals predominantly sung in her native tongue, Sadier's style is a clear reflection of where the singer/songwriter finds herself amid the trending musical landscape. While most people might find a good deal of her songs complex and slightly difficult to understand, with repeated listens, her sonic depth becomes apparent and easy to respect.
