A Filetta

A Filetta was created by Michele Frassati in 1978 in order to keep Corsican polyphonic chanting alive. Corisica, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, retained its own unique langue even though it was taken over by France in the 18th Century. All seven members of the group are males. A Filetta's haunting melodies are dense with emotions that generally come across as melancholic. The men will allow their harmonies to sustain for long periods of time while Frassati sings soaring soprano counter-melodies over them.
