The project of New York-based producer and musician Will Thomas, Dive Index is more collaborative and less minimalist than Thomas' solo work. The process of creating music for Dive Index generally involves emailing files back-and-forth between Thomas and other vocalists and musicians, including Julia Kent (of Antony & the Johnsons), Cat Martino and Mark Gardener (of Ride). Through layering and editing these fairly diverse collaborative samples, Thomas is able to create downtempo trip-hop ballads that are dark and lovely.
