Public Image Ltd. is an experimental post punk band from London that creates slow churning, bass-heavy music. Helmed by Johnny Lydon, sometimes known as Johnny Rotten, former singer of the Sex Pistols, the singer tones down his vocals for Public Image Ltd., offering fairly thoughtful and calculated lyrics capable of holding a listeners attention with powerful vocal prowess. The band released its debut album, titled First Issue, in 1978. Although Public Image Ltd. has undergone several lineup changed since then, Lydon remains as the creative nucleus. Public Image Ltd. has managed to go down as one of the more respected and influential bands to have emerge out of the original post-punk movement.
