Up until 2009, Edward Maya was far from a known quantity in the mainstream pop world, mostly gigging as a House DJ and producing tracks for artists in his native home of Romania. All that changed with the release of "Stereo Love," a club hit and chart-topping collaboration with Russian singer Vika Jigulina. The song set a European Hot 100 record, staying on the chart for 52 straight weeks. While Maya certainly milks the customary four-on-the floor pulse and rudimentary synth hooks found in club and electro hits for all they're worth, he also adds live instrumentation such as accordion and flute to his records and live performances.
