With a knack for writing avant-garde tunes that often drift into ambient soundscapes, the German band Cluster has led a storied career as one of Germany's more innovative experimental bands. Formed in 1971 by Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Dieter Moebius and Conny Plank, Cluster started out making a unique for of krautrock; but as technology presented itself to these musicians, Cluster's sound started sounding more electronic and distinctly more ethereal. Spending a bit of time with producer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Eno helped the group hone its sound and capitalize off atmospheric tones as well as tonal shifts.
