An Australian Christmas tradition dating back to the 1800s, Carols by Candlelight is an outdoor event based around several performers singing classic Christmas songs. Audience members hold candles, creating a warm, intimate feeling which has kept the event prominent after decades of existence. Carols by Candlelight is now performed all over Australia, but the biggest is still the original, which is held annually at the Sidney Meyer Music Bowl on Christmas Eve.
