Death in Venice (Opera)

This 20th century opera by English composer Benjamin Britten is based on the novella of the same name by German author Thomas Mann. The story follows a middle-aged homosexual man's flight to Venice where he becomes enamored with a young Polish boy whom he follows, but never truly meets face-to-face. The ambiguity of Mann's classic work is perfectly augmented by Britten's haunting score, and has often saved the work from fading into the obscurity of controversy.
