Since emerging with its self-titled debut album in 2014, Philadelphia-based band The Spirit of the Beehive has managed to define itself as a group whose willingness to be understood is far down on the totem pole of its priorities. Initially building a sound for itself that leaned heavily into shoegaze instrumental sensibilities, the group has since adopted a strong psychedelic meets folk rock sound. Not a band to shy away from experimentation, The Spirit of the Beehive has built a reputation for its live shows that feature extended, improvisatory jams.
