Moddi

Silsand is an island located off the northern coast of Norway. Until a bridge was connected to the mainland in 1972, the area consisted of little more than a few villages. The island now boasts a population of nearly 8,000 - one of them being the folk musician Pål Moddi Knutsen, who performs and records under the Moddi guise. He makes music with his mother's accordion, a stolen Russian mandolin, a crumbling guitar with two broken frets and his voice. The result is an eclectic style of modern folk that has found a home with an audience that seeks out interesting listening material few people have heard of.
