About
Raised in a religious home which prohibited mainstream music, the America-born singer-songwriter Toni Childs has three platinum albums, multiple chart-busters and an Emmy Award-winning single to her name. Wanting to pursue her ambition of becoming a musician, she ran away from home at the age of 15. She subsequently moved to London in the hopes of discovering her sound, while working odd jobs in order to gain recording experience. Her breakthrough came with her debut album Union, which garnered great acclaim from critics, and helped catch the eye of other popular artists. Her subsequent albums were big hits in Australia and The Woman's Boat earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Performance. Her singles like "Many Rivers to Cross," "Because You're Beautiful" and "I've Got to Go Now" were commercial successes. In 1997, she started the Dream a Dolphin charity after being diagnosed with Graves' disease.
