Members of the Swiss Super League, Neuchâtel Xamax's path in the top flight has been somewhat dramatic. Founded in 1912, the club enjoyed a decent spell in its early years, though it never quite reached the level of some of the giants of Swiss football. Its most successful spell came in the late 1980s when it won the Swiss football's prime trophy two years in a row. It never achieved that run of form again and in 2012 the club was relegated after a financial crises led it to bankruptcy. However, it bounced back from its problems and earned a promotion into the Super League in 2018.
