Widely referred to as GAIS, Göteborgs Atlet-och Idrottssällskap is a football club that was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1894. One of the founding clubs of Sweden Allsvenskan, GAIS became the league's first champions in 1924 and has since endured as one of the oldest football clubs in Sweden. The team plays its home games at Gothenburg's Gamla Ullevi stadium and is often referred to by several different nicknames, including Grönsvart, or "black-green" after its jersey colors.
