Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella was originally written for a television production in 1957 with Julie Andrews appearing in the titular role. Having since been adapted for the stage, with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, the musical is based on the fairy tale of the same name tells the story of a young woman forced into a life of service by her stepmother who dreams of a better life.
