The Chicago Fire is a professional soccer team based out of the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview, Illinois that competes in Major League Soccer. Named after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the team was founded on October 7th, 1997--the 126th anniversary of the fire that gutted the Windy City. During its inaugural season in 1998, the Fire won the MLS Cup as well as the US Open Cup, helping distinguish the team as one of the more formidable squads in the league.
