Before the English singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse passed away in 2011, she experienced her fare share of ups and downs. Known best as a talented vocalist with a distinctive R&B, soul and jazz throwback quality; Winehouse also created a reputation for herself with unusual off stage antics and hearty substance abuse problems. Her breakthrough 2006 album, Back to Black, worked to announce Winehouse's arrival on the scene and it helped build the singer's reputation as one of the more interesting songstresses of her generation.
