Kia Tigers was one of 6 teams that started compete in the first season of Korean Baseball League in 1982. Since the launch of the league, Kia Tigers had controlled over the league winning the Korea Series nine times which is the most. As the parent company Haitai which was suffering from financial crisis was taken over by Kia Motors in 2001, the team was in the state of confusion and not able to get a good result for 10 years. However, Kia Tigers won the Korea Series in 2009 and showed off the prestigious team's revival. Many star players such as Dongyeol Seon, Jongbeom Lee and Daehwa Han played for the team leading the team's golden age in 1990s.
