C.S. Marítimo is based on the island of Madeira and plays its matches in the Estádio dos Barreiros, along with the other main club on the island, Nacional. The club, known affectionately as the Verde-Rubros (Green and Ruby), was first established in 1910 and its main rivals on the island are the aforementioned Nacional and to a lesser extent, União. The team has fans throughout the Portuguese speaking world, in places as diverse as New Jersey, Venezuela and Cape Verde thanks to sister-teams in the latter two countries.
